Losing Weight As A Stay At Home Mom: Tips And Suggestions For Success

Being a stay-at-home mom is one of the most fulfilling jobs there is, but many women have trouble maintaining their weight when they switch to this new role. In part, the difficulty lies in always having access to the kitchen and to food. Still, it is possible to lose weight and feel great when you are a stay-at-home mother. The following tips will help.

Think through your meals ahead of time. If you intend to splurge a little during a picnic lunch with your children, make sure that your breakfast and dinner are healthy, low-calorie meals. Try getting a small journal and keeping it somewhere in the kitchen. Track how many calories you eat at each meal so that you have an idea of where you are at before you sit down to eat again. By being diligent, you can still enjoy food without going overboard.

Tip: Get lots of sleep when working out. It is recommended that an adult gets eight hours of sleep each night.

Don’t get wrapped up in trying the latest diet. In general, they aren’t healthy and they won’t work; it is hard to sustain a diet over a long period of time, and as soon as you begin eating normally again, the weight will creep back on. Instead, focus on your calorie intake. Make sure you drink plenty of water before and during meals in order to fill up your stomach with something other than food. If you struggle with snacking, place a magnetic notepad on your refrigerator. Write down everything you eat each day on there; seeing your list may help you stop snacking unnecessarily.

Each Sunday, prepare a few healthy snacks and have them ready to go in the refrigerator. Many SAHM get in trouble because they are busy, get hungry and try to grab something quick to eat. If you have carrot or celery sticks already prepared, it makes it easier to eat them than if you had to stop, wash them and cut them up. Give yourself every advantage by getting things ready ahead of time.

Tip: Count your calories. A cheap notebook or notepad should be part of your weight loss arsenal.

Get moving. The great thing about this is that you can have quality time with your children while you burn calories. Think about what your kids like to do and incorporate that. Take them to the park and have relay races. Go for a walk and try to spot different animals or nature items. You can even have a “dance party” right in your living room. Be creative and don’t be afraid to get silly or dirty. Not only does this help you reach your goals, but it will encourage your children to remain active as they get older as well.

Stay-at-home mothers face a unique challenge when it comes to their weight; the easy access to food often makes it hard for them to stay at a size they are comfortable with. If you find yourself in this position, try out a few of the tips from this article. Not only will you look better, you’ll feel better, too, and you will be modeling the type of lifestyle that you want your children to live some day.
